Sports in Lviv – continuing traditions

CBC Poland-Belarus-Ukraine Programme wants to commemorate a legendary LKS Pogoń Lwów – a former Polish professional sports club, which existed from 1904 until the outbreak of World War II. 2019 is a special year for the club, as it celebrates its 115th anniversary and 15 years of renewal of its activities. The idea of EC Day 2019 event is to show the continuing traditions of sports in Lviv, which are common Polish –Ukrainian heritage. It is also targeted at encouraging children and adults to do sports and lead healthy lifestyles. Moreover, the attendees will be able to learn about the Programme activities in the region and EU-funded projects.

On the 27th of September 2019, on Skif stadium the modern edition of Pogoń will play a football match with PBU team. Two junior football teams of Lviv will another game. The games will be preceded by presentations about sports traditions in Lviv, VIP guest speeches and a press-conference. Simultaneously, sports activities (running, freestyle, ball kicking etc.) for young spectators will be organized and small awards distributed. To visualize the club’s history,  an exhibition of Pogoń Lwów archive photographs will be located in the open space, within the stadium area.
